It all started where most concert nights start...at the Elbow room. On entering Elbow, Mel immediately recognized KOL on the jukebox...perfect way to start the night. We had our pizza fix and a beer then headed out to The Loft downtown. Melissa and I pull up to the parking attendant...and he said "Do you ladies have your tickets?" "No, we are just going to get them at the box office" He broke our hearts with these two small words "Sold Out". Lucky for us, Melissa is friends with Meiko's sister's boyfriend (follow?) She debated calling in the favor, but after 30 mins of texting, Peter (meiko's sister's boyfriend) was able to come through. We got on the "list" and were in. A few minutes after we got in, Meiko came on stage. The majority of the crowd was obviously there for the headliner Josh Radin...because they disrepected Meiko through her entire set by running their mouths. Respect people...
After a while I was able to tune out the rudeness and tune in to her great voice. Meiko has a really unique way of holding her mouth while she sings. Its surprising that amazing sound could come from such face contortions, but she couldn't look any cuter while she did it. I know, I know you think I have a crush on her...but seriously she is so great. And maybe I do have a little bit of a girl crush on her :) She sang her popular singles, Boys with Girlfriends, Under My Bed, How Lucky We Are. I remember hearing Hawaii...which I personally love and finished it off with a great story about an ex-guyfriend's crazy jealous girlfriend followed by Real Real Sweet. And I will for sure download this one. After she left the stage, mel and I went over to the VIP Band area to thank her for getting us in. She was really gracious and down-to-earth...hope we get to see her next time she is in Dallas. You should try too.
We stayed for a few of Josh Radin's songs....and then left. When we got in the car Meiko's hit, Boys with Girlfriends, was on XM. What a way to end the night.

State Radio - HOB - Feb 5
I love me some SR. On Thursday, matt, mel and I traveled to one of my favorite Dallas venues, HOB's Pontiac Garage. Some people may say HOB is too commercial and that they have "sold-out" but I love a venue that I allows me to enjoy a concert without the threat of lung cancer. But I digress...We went to will call to pick up our tickets to realize that we were probably the oldest people there...maybe by at least a decade. Turns out the opener, Rebulution, is a fav of the high school kids. So we drank a few beers at the bar before State Radio came on.
State Radio did not disappoint. In the past, there shows have been great, but their music was a little sloppy. Their sound wasn't as good live as it is in studio. But years on the road have helped them fine tune their craft. This show was the best SR show I have seen to date. They played a lot of songs from their first 2 albums and surprised us with a few new ones. There is a song about the ocean between us...or something...and I loved it. I can't wait for the next album to release. The coolest thing that night....I scored the set list (on a ripped piece of paper written in sharpie) Could it be any cooler? After the show, the band came out to visit with the fans. Matt scored all 3 autographs on his show poster and we even got some good pics with Chad. I begged Chad to get on the Austin City Limits line-up....they are perfect for ACL. Maybe this year????

Somebody's Darling - City Tavern - Jan 31
When I was visiting family in Florida over the Christmas holiday, matt and friends randomly went to Adairs in Deep Ellum. They were expecting to drink beer out of a can with a paper koozie and play a little bit of shuffleboard. Not only did Adairs meet their expectations, it exceeded them. To everyone's surprise the new Shiner Records' Rising Star Competition winners, Somebody's Darling, were performing. If you just asked yourself...Who? Then I suggest you do some research.
After experiencing this new phenomenon, matt could not stop raving about them. (and Shelly had great things to say about them too) So when Pegasus News alerted us that they will be playing again in Dallas, I had to check them out. Matt and I traveled to City Tavern in downtown Dallas on Saturday, Jan 31st. Now that day Matt discovered a busted pipe in his crawl space and we spent the majority of the day pumping out water, so needless to say...I was pretty tired. But we made it to the show and I am glad we did!
This band is awesome...Amber's voice is clear, strong, and textured. They also won their way into my heart with a Tom Petty cover song. Who doesn't love a Tom Petty cover? These musicians are top-notch and I just can not wait to see them again (Adair's, Deep Ellum, Feb 19th) If you like folksy-rock (if that even exists) you will love this band. See you at Adairs....

It's about time
Since I started dating Matt (3 years ago) I have been to quite a few concerts. I typically have opinions and thoughts on the shows...but I usually just share with fellow concert goers. It's about time I put it out there on the interweb for all to read.
